what is a rushmonkey?
“Who are we?” “Why Rushmonkey?” “What is a Rushmonkey anyway?” “Why should I care?”
…Are these the things you ask yourself everyday that you visit our blog? …(Well, it should be everyday)…
The Rushmonkey blog makes it’s place in this world by taking an interest in sports and recreation.
Why Rushmonkey??? I’m not really sure how he came up with that but ask Hans! After extensive brainstorming, I give credit to him for discovering this name but it represents to me a particular way of living life and a particular way of what it is to be human: living for the love of life!
We like to think of ourselve as gonzo journalists…. sort of. We do get our kicks off by getting involved in new things.
The 4 of us at Rushmonkeys have no fears. We will find out what you humans are doing to get a thrill, then we will take your picture and blog about it. (with permission, of course!) Then we ourselves, will give it a try. Because there is no learning without getting involved!!
However, there is 1 requirement for a sport or activity to make it on our blog:
1) It must make the blood pump! Adrenaline inducing, alternative sport, risky, a rush, extreme sport, insane, whatever you want to call it; the activity must push the human boundaries, whether that be physical (like Rock climbing or Roller Derby) or mental (like Parkour or SCUBA diving).
This blog birthed its way into the blogosphere on April 9th, 2009. Not long ago!! Originally, there was just Hans (the guy floating in the picture) and myself (green skirt, peacock). But, our project was starting to grow and develop and we were getting some great support from a couple of friends we knew, so we invited them to our monkey crew. They are Katie (the vegetarian lady on the left) and Josh (the hippie).
With them, we birthed a fraternal sister site. A site that is very similar, yet has it’s own purpose and individuality. The Eco-monkey blog.
This blog focuses on all things green! Locally and new products or new ways of thinking that are all in support of giving more thought and more care to our planet. Click here and visit the site here to learn more about what we do…
- Both blogs take an active interest in educating others!
- We want to get other people aware and involved…
- We want people to know and ask questions…
- We want to build community…
- In fact, we are working to become a hub for the existing communities out there so people can become more aware of what there is available for the human body to explore.
Our goal: to experience as much as we can in our lives, to love life and to appreciate that place that gave birth to us! Earth!!
Tasha: “In order to sustain a fulfilling life, I must make an attempt everyday to exert my fullest potential. I want to live life completely. I hate the idea of looking back and regretting something I didn’t do. At least those things that I have done; I experienced. And I learned something from them.” ~~“Dream as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow” - James Dean
Hans: “I’m all about the story. What sort of anecdotes will I be able to bore my children with? Will it be about the one time I went to Target? Or the one time I went hang gliding over Mount Rushmore? I like the latter. I’m a photographer, an artist, and aspiring webhead. I look forward to having the pants scared off of me as many times as possible, and creating some awesome stories along the way!”~~“You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” - Ansel Adams
Katie: “I find my greatest successes in those of my students and I hold to heart the idea put forth by Viktor Frankl that success and personal happiness occur “as the unintended side effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself”. My happiness shines in the faces of my students when they achieve something they had not before thought possible.”~~“We are the music makers, And we are the dreamers of dreams,” - Arthur O’Shaughnessy
