In our ever-going search for new and different ways to get a rush, I came across a gem today.

Fishing has been around since…well…fish. And ever since the first man saw a fish flopping lamely on the bank and decided to taste it, people have been clamoring for new and different ways of getting the fish out of the water with as must efficiency, grace, and technology as possible.

Well screw that!

Whatever happened to brawn?? Whatever happened to looking that fish dead in the eyes and saying, “One of us is gonna get eaten today, and it sure ain’t gonna be me!” Well, I’m not sure if that time ever really existed…but it does now, darn it!

Well some clever people down in Tennessee have figured out that if you follow the catfish to their breeding grounds, you can make a pretty good attempt at fishing for them with your bare hands. It’s called Catfish Noodling! Also called grabbling, grabbing, and other things depending on where in the South you are. Now these aren’t your run of the mill 4 or 5 pound catfish that you see in your neighborhood pond or lake. This is Moby Catfish. This is Catzilla. This is The Cat Cong. This is….well…you get the idea. Some of these fish weigh well over 50lbs! It’s so popular that some have even decided to sell videos of their exploits called “Girls Gone Grabblin.”

I’d like to try my hand at this someday. Hopefully I won’t lose it.
