I bet you never knew they existed… off-road unicycling!

As Hans and I were driving away after a quick hike through the Austin Greenbelt via the Loop 360 access, we spotted a guy in a rad 1980’s silver Porsche gearing up for some dandy mountain biking. But not the type of off road fun you and I are so familiar with…

This guy was bustin’ out a unicycle equipped with a thick tread suitable for rough dirt roads. Too cool, man!

We should’ve stopped and asked this guy for a demo but I guess we were a bit too shocked to think passed our amazement.

So, in Rushmonkey fashion I scoured Youtube for some video footage just to give you guys a taste of this funky combination. Now, I never really thought about it but it just doesn’t seem like it would fit… rocks, mud and unicycles?? No way! Unicycles and sidewalks, unicycles and high-wires definitely! See, that stuff makes sense.

But leave it to Austin to prove me wrong! Dead wrong! There is an Austin website dedicated to facilitating meetups for fellow unicyclists. Guess what else I found! Unicycle hockey! Wha? I guess it makes sense considering bicycle polo has been popular for quite some time!

This stuff cracks me up!! I mean, it’s a totally cool sport and those that do it have got something very unique to claim, so maybe it’s watching this video and the dramatic music and slow motion effects that gets my goat! I’m trying to take it seriously, I really am, but this sport looks like an instant sex change (if ya know what I’m sayin’)! YeeOUCH!
