Roz Savage: Female athlete rowing for climate change

I love what she says about her journey; it took a million oar strokes to get from San Fransisco to Hawaii. But with only one oar stroke, she was still under the Golden Gate Bridge. Every person’s efforts creates a ripple effect and makes a difference. That is a really beautiful way of putting it!

Roz Savage.

An extraordinary woman who rowed solo across the Atlantic ocean in 2005 to 2006. She is the first woman to  brocadecompete in the 3000-mile race across the Atlantic, solo!

Some may call her a superwoman, some definitely didn’t believe in her, but the truth is that now, she is a hero for many!! And an inspiration to everyone!

On her first ocean voyage, she was equipped with a carbon fiber boat, freeze dried foods, bean sprouts, and a satellite phone she used as a life line to the main land. She also used that phone to send updates to her website so people could stay connected with her.
This was her first rowing expedition: 3000 miles in 103 days.

In 2007, she attempted to row across the Pacific when bad oceanic weather hit and capsized her boat 3 times forcing her to stop. Not giving up, she tries again at the great Pacific sea in 2008 with success.  rough-seas

She completed the 2nd stage of her solo Pacific crossing on September 6th, 2009!

roz-rowing Back in 2000 ( her last year as a ‘normal citizen’ ) she had a 9-5 job, a husband, a house, bills, and the occasional unexpected surprise in her life. But the more she looked in on her life, the less she desired to keep living in this way. As she states on her site:

I wasn’t happy. I wasn’t fulfilled. I wasn’t being true to my values.”  pacific-near-waikiki
I learned that living life according to my values made me happier than a big income and lots of possessions.”(cited from www.rozsavage.com)

If you read the section called ‘Roz’s story’ you get this great short on the development of her emerging philosophy. It’s really interesting to say the least! It’s almost fictional in nature!!

holes-in-glovesShe goes from a working-class citizen to an eco-advocate rowing across the oceans, alone, fighting seas and weather. She does all of this to spread the truth that we need to take action on the spreading environmental issues we face!

Roz Savage has pushed the boundaries of human nature and has helped to redefine social ‘normality’. And if the question ever comes up whether human abilities are innate or can be learned, she is a beautiful and prime example that the human body can adapt to anything and human abilities are not only inherent; they are acquired!

I visited her site a couple of months ago and just fell in love with her! She has inspired me to do all the right things: Love life, respect it and live it fulfilled, live aware, chase dreams, about personal achievement and finding true value within yourself and within the life you create.
There is so much good read on her site!!! Visit her site and you will learn about her, her goals, her inspiring life, about current environmental action…etc.

There is also a RozTracker that allows you to view where she was in the Pacific in 2008/9 when she submitted her various blog posts, videos, and photos… and she will probably use it for her upcoming race in 2010.

Get inspired!! Really!

The 3rd and final stage of her rowing the Pacific is this spring, 2010! You can visit her site for more info on that stage!! I’m sure she will be actively blogging about it! I would too!!!

I would suggest to everyone that we become involved in taking action for ourselves and our lives, but also for our planet Earth!

I’m going to be active in  tracking Roz on her 3rd stage in the Pacific to show that she has support. Stay tuned to her website and I will also post reminders for you as I learn more! But I would love for some of you to join me. Making change can also be a joint effort and we should all support each other, especially Roz who’s intent is to reach the ears and hearts of people all over the world.

I’ve  listed a few places for you to go, but I suggest you explore her site on your own! ;)

Also, visit our other blog; Roz Savage is a dedicated environmental activist so I wanted to dedicate an entire post to her efforts. Please read it when you get a chance! There is a lot to learn and enjoy!
